Palmerston Road, Enfield, N22

This 3 bed, 5 person new build residential development, is knitted into its surrounding fabric of North London Victorian terraces.

The design began as an act of continuity, adopting familiar characteristics, motifs and building lines of the two adjacent terrace houses. The result is distinct and contemporary. The familiar Victorian window and eave cornice is repeated with a profiled masonry coping. Window apertures to the East side of the house are sized to line up with the fenestration on the neighbouring terrace. A contrasting roughcast finish acting as a soldier course is set back within the oversized window apertures.

These subtle subversions bring the existing houses into focus as well as quietly distinguishing the new building from them. The property will be used to provide emergency temporary accommodation to local London boroughs.
